Like I Don't Have Enough To Do

Quite the Pile
Post:

This is the pile of books, well, most of them, next to my side of the bed.  I've got a few more on the floor, in addition to a couple of notebooks and long lost (mechanical) pencils.  As in, "Where are all my (mechanical) pencils?  I just bought a ten more the other day!"

I was compelled to picturize and post my pile of reading material for a couple of reasons.  The first being that it is far more attractive and interesting than other piles around the house currently calling my name - the pile of laundry on the bedroom floor, the pile of bills waiting to be opened on my desk, the pile of mending on the kitchen chair, and the pile of medical forms and supporting documents on my dining table.  Blah.

The second reason is much more entertaining - this pile of books reminds me of when Boyfriend and I first got together, a mere year and a half ago.  The first time he saw my bedroom, he noticed a similar pile of books on the table beside my bed.  "I knew I liked you - look at all of those books you're reading at once!"  I had figured we had similar reading styles - reading as many books as possible at a time, in an effort to learn as much as possible, as quickly as possible.  One of many topics of discussion in our pre-dating correspondence was our mutual interest in learning new things.

So the first time I laid eyes on his bedroom, I laughed.  Books.  Not just beside the bed.  EVERYWHERE.

Yay for books.  Yay for learning.  Yay for mutual interests and fresh beginnings.  Yay for reminders of why you got together with the one you love.

I'm so proud of you for

I'm so proud of you for reading all these things and getting smarter.  I have enough trouble reading novels - books that are actually TEACHING me something just sound like too much work.  Maybe I've gotten better, though...I seem to be flying through the fiction lately.

What can I say?

I'm a nerd.  Addicted to learning.  And my tuber has given me a new-found sense of urgency.  MUST. LEARN. MORE. STUFF. NOW. First, I turned 30.  Then, I got diagnosed with a brain tumor...

But kudos to you for all the reading you're doing.  Have I mentioned my friend Laurel's book?  You should read that next.

Ahem.

Um, I can't help feeling a bit disappointed that MY book isn't in that pile. Is that wrong? ;-) xoxo

Laurel

Wait - did you write a book about brain cancer?

You know, when I saw this, I was totally going to Photo-shop your book into this photo and send it to you.  And I still may...

I'm recommending it to all my friends!  And is Mommune your new novel?  I can't wait to see the excerpts you promised to post.

Your book will be in there soon enough!

THERE you are.

One, I want to read Skinny Bitch. Does it teach you how to be skinny or how to be a bitch? (BTW, Skinny Ass Bitch was my nickname at the ad agency.)

Two, I want to see the art behind the books. It looks lovely. And like something I would want to buy for myself.

Three, no books in our house. Unless you can count the Pottery Barn catalog as a book. Which I do since I study it to learn style. Last book read, sadly, was Devil Wears Prada. OH - I read a book last month - doh - about a woman who rescued a horse. It wasn't very good and had embarrassingly large type, but it counts, right?

Four, how are you? Miss you.

I can't believe you don't have books...

I couldn't imagine my life without hundreds of books spilling out of bookshelves, off of tables.  That's just WILD!

My little bro already answered this, but the horse behind the books is an OLD print of my grandmother's that I got to have when she passed away.  I LOVE it.  I LOVE that she was a horse lady, and I treasure all the horsey things I acquired from her.

Skinny Bitch ROCKED my world.  It will ROCK yours, too, if you dare read it.  You will never look at food the same way.  (But in a good, healthy, way.)  I couldn't finish the chapter on meat, but I never ate it again.

I'm emailing you a present today...

XOXOXO

Okay, no books is a slight exaggeration.

Ella has them all over her room. So when you come to my house, I do have a big selection of books to choose from -- classics like Cat in the Hat, Walter the Farting Dog and Olivia.

do you have "oh the places

do you have "oh the places you'll go?"  lisa gave that to me when i graduated college and it makes me cry every time i read it.

I DO have that one.

But I don't cry. Hmmm.

Kari - Skinny Bitch is great

Kari - Skinny Bitch is great - but don't read it unless you're ready to give up meat.  You will NOT want to eat it again after you read the book.

And that picture was one our grandmother had hanging in her house.  Isn't it neat?
